Sony Xperia XZ1 priced at Rs. 44,990 with all the features it offers is, according to me, Sony’s only smartphone that they’ve priced perfectly at launch. For me, Sony has got most things right in making this smartphone. It’s got a superb display, great camera hardware, best available processor, optimum RAM-ROM combination, doesn’t miss out on durability, lots going on in the battery department, a revolutionary new camera sensor, didn’t miss out on fingerprint scanner, unlike some brands ;), comes with an all new feature 3D Creator, and AR Effects, comes with Android Oreo out-of-the-box, yet priced sensibly at Rs. 44990. So, let’s get to know it a bit better.
The Xperia XZ1 sports a 5.2″ FHD HDR Display and there are a couple of other things going on as well. This smartphone display is using Sony’s Bravia TV technology which brings TRILUMINOS Display and X-Reality for mobile enhancing the colour and pixel reproduction, while enhancing the colours and contrast.
Sony Xperia XZ1 comes in both single-SIM and dual-SIM variants, both the variants have the same internals, buy the company is only bringing the dual-SIM variant to India. The phone does everything with the 64-bit Qualcomm SnapDragon 835 chipset with Adreno 540 GPU responsible for handling graphics. The smartphone comes with 4GB of RAM with 64GB of Universal Flash Storage. the internal memory can be further expanded upto 256 GB via a microSD card. All this is powered by a 2700 mAh battery with Smart Stamina 3.0, Qnovo Adaptive Charging, STAMINA Mode and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.
Xperia XZ1 comes with Android Oreo installed out-of-the-box and provides Corning Gorilla Glass 5 to protect it’s fabulous display, with IP68 Certification for water and dust resistance. The connectivity options include 4G LTE, A-GNSS (GPS + GLONASS), WiFi Miracast, Bluetooth 5.0, DLNA, Google Cast, NFC, USB 3.1 Type-C. The fingerprint sensor (oh yes it does not rely only on face-recognition), is present on the power key itself.
Like always, Sony does offer pretty good audio experience as well, at least on paper. With DSEE HX, Sony, offers to enhance the audio into high-res. The LDAC offers Digital Noise Cancelling, stereo recording and Automatic Headphone Optimization. The dual front firing stereo speakers make for a good audio experience while consuming media content. The DAC with ClearAudio+ offers strong powerful bass without distorting the sound.
Sony Xperia XZ1 looks to score high on the camera department with a 19MP Motion Eye camera with 1/2.3” Exmor RS for mobile memory-stacked sensor that has a Pixel Pitch of 1.22μm. The lens is a 25 mm wide Sony’s award-winning G Lens with an aperture of F2.0. Along with that setup on the rear, Sony, brings in a lot more. BIONZ for mobile image-processing engine with Predictive Capture (motion / smile). Predictive Capture automatically starts buffering images seconds before you press the shutter button. Autofocus burst, to tracks and capture sequences of moving objects in sharp focus, this helps to capture action shots without any blur. Predictive Hybrid Autofocus, Anti-distortion shutter, SteadyShot™ with Intelligent Active Mode (5-axis stablization) are included in the camera setup. The rear camera can shoot in 4K and the highlight is it’s ability to capture 960 fps Super slow motion video. The front camera is a 13MP 1/3.06” Exmor RS for mobile image sensor. The camera setup includes a 22mm wide angle lens with an aperture of F2.0 for wider group selfie shots. The display flash and wide aperture would help shoot brighter selfies. Just like the rear camera, the front camera too has Optical Image Stabilisation (5-axis stablization).
Now, one of the most interesting thing about this phone is the 3D Creator. This app lets you capture the world in 3D, and turn people and objects into high-resolution 3D avatars. This also brings in Augumented Reality into play with AR-Object and AR-Avatar. You can either 3D print them at home or connect with professional 3D printing companies for quick and easy online printing. You could even create an edible version of your avatar. The app come with four scanning modes: face, head, freeform and food. It would be super interesting if I can test out these features.
