Earlier in the afternoon, Xiaomi, launched the Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime in India. While the two devices are identical in looks, there are some differences between them. The ‘Prime’ variant packs in a bit more, and this is the norm the company has been following for their Redmi series of handsets.
Both smartphones are dressed in a premium magnesium alloy body. The handsets are the first ones to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430, a 64-bit, octa-core processor clocked at a peak frequency of 1.4 GHz each. To handle Graphics and Games, the smartphones come with an Adreno 505 GPU. As a result, almost any game you throw at this, should perform very smooth. A massive 4100mAh battery powers both the devices.
A 13MP, 0.1s ultra-fast Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) camera and 12.6cm (5) HD display are what they share in common as well. In addition to the primary camera, a 5MP front shooter with Face Detection and 1080p full HD recording is present on both varients.
Both the devices come with a hybrid SIM Slot. The hybrid SIM slot supports two SIM cards to send and receive calls and messages from two different phone numbers, both supporting 4G and VoLTE. If you only have one SIM card, you have the option to add a microSD card for up to 128GB of storage.
Other Connectivity options include, Bluetooth 4.1, Bluetooth HID, Wi-Fi 2.4GHz, Wi-Fi Display and Wi-Fi Direct. Sensors include the Electronic compass, Gravity sensor, Light sensor, Infrared, Proximity sensor and Gyroscope. The smartphones are equipped with GPS, AGPS, GLONASS and BeiDou.
So what’s the difference between the Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime?
The Redmi 3S Prime, being the more powerful of the two has 3GB LPDDR3 RAM and a 32GB eMMC 5.1 flash internal storage. The Redmi 3S on the other hand has a slightly lower, 2GB LPDDR3 RAM and 16GB eMMC 5.0 flash Internal storage. Another difference between the two is that the Prime variant has a fingerprint scanner at the back while the non-Prime variant doesn’t. Then we have the price difference, the Redmi 3S Prime is priced at ₹8,999 and the Redmi 3S will be available at ₹6,999.
Both the smartphones will be available in Silver, Dark grey and Gold colour variants and will be available exclusively via MI.com and flipkart.com (in the beginning). The Redmi 3S Prime will go on sale on 9th August at 12 PM IST.
