Earlier in March, this year, Xiaomi and Microsoft entered into a partnership where a select Mi4 users were offered the beta version of Windows 10 for Phones. Now nearly nine months after that announcement, Lin Bin, Co-Founder and President of Xiaomi shared the news on Chinese social networking website Weibo that Windows 10 Mobile software for flagship Mi 4 Android smartphone will be released in China on December 3.
Microsoft’s new mobile operating system Windows 10 for Phones, which so far has only been seen on devices like the newly launched Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, will now be seen on the Mi4. The Mi4 users will get the Operating system as an optional update. Earlier a Microsoft Operating System Software Engineer, aliased as TheRenaissanceMan posted on Weibo that a public release of Windows 10 for Mi 4 is coming on Thanksgiving Day.
Mi Pad 2 which already features a Windows version, is also expected to get the windows 10 update sometime soon. More details on which products would get the windows 10 update, and if Xiaomi is planning to launch some devices with the Windows variant as well as the Android would only be known on December 3.
The Mi 5, Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship smartphone, which has been in the rumours for a long time now and expected to run on Snapdragon 820, probably the reason for its delayed launch, could come with a Windows variant (Nothing confirmed).
It will be very interesting to see the impact of Xiaomi-Microsoft Partnership, in the long run, though!
